Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of analyzing the economic situation and determining the prospects for the development of the oil and gas complex of the Russian Federation. The article presents an analysis of the dynamics of the industry's sustainability and profitability indicators for the period from 2012 to 2024, as well as examines the economic characteristics of the five largest companies that form the main share of revenue in the oil and gas production sector. The results revealed that the Russian oil and gas industry remains strategically stable, but its economic condition is significantly heterogeneous: a number of companies demonstrate high autonomy, liquidity and profitability, while others are characterized by lower indicators of economic stability and dependence on external factors. It is concluded that the current state of the industry can be described as stable, but subject to short-term risks associated with the volatility of world prices for hydrocarbons and restrictions of a foreign economic nature. The article also outlines the main directions for the further development of the industry, namely: optimizing working capital management, increasing asset efficiency, technological import substitution and diversification of export flows. It has been established that the further development of the oil and gas sector requires a combination of financial discipline and strategic modernization, which will maintain stability and ensure high-quality growth in the context of the transformation of global energy markets.
