Abstract
The increasing crisis phenomena in the global economy and the geopolitical processes taking place at the present stage of global development require new approaches to the functioning of the global financial system as a whole and its elements, namely, the use of various instruments as world money. In this regard, the study of various approaches to the further development of the global monetary system is not just relevant, but a necessary direction for the development of theoretical and practical aspects of the formation of a fundamentally new global monetary system necessary for the stabilization and further development of the global economy. The method of content analysis of available sources was used in the study. The evolution of instruments performing the functions of a global currency is presented. A critical analysis of the approaches of various scientists in revealing the essence of the problem under study has been carried out. The study summarizes the main prerequisites for using instruments as a global currency, and substantiates the prerequisites for using bitcoin as a global currency. The study provides a better understanding of the prospects for using bitcoin as a global currency, and the results should be taken into account in their professional activities by investors, economists, and decision makers in this area.
