Abstract
The present study is devoted to analyzing the evolution of the concept of resilience of regional economic systems amid rapid global economic changes. The methodology is based on a historical‑retrospective analysis. Shifts in resilience paradigms were examined: from ancient ideas of equilibrium and medieval models that accounted for local resources, through 20th‑century concepts integrating economic security and post‑crisis recovery mechanisms. In the modern stage, a multidisciplinary approach is emphasized, integrating economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The principal finding reveals a shift of focus: initially from internal equilibrium, then toward the need to adapt to external factors (trade flows, migration), and finally to the requirement for synergy among all elements of sustainable development (social justice, ecological balance) in the 21st century. The study’s significance lies in showing that a historical overview justifies the integration of resilience principles into contemporary public policy to ensure long‑term, balanced territorial development.
